If you follow me on Instagram or Snapchat, you know that I had quite the busy work weekend recently. Doesn’t that seem to just come with the territory of the Summer months? Calendars start to get jammed packed and you hit the bed everyday completely spent.
Still, after an especially long week or weekend, it certainly takes longer to get back into the swing of things. Particularly if you have to spent time traveling or away from home.
Whether you’re out for work or play (and I sincerely hope you’re getting a balanced dose of both), it’s important to have a recover plan so that you can bounce back and reestablish your regular routines. Here are a few things I always add into my daily mix when recovering from a long week or weekend.
Long week/end recovery
Pay extra attention to hydration. You may feel completely fine, but running around heading to one place and the next for an extended period of time can take a tool on hydration. Especially if your week/end turns a bit…. boozy. After a long week or weekend, I pay much more attention to my water intake.
Take a bit off of your plate. If you were away, for work or pleasure, your natural inclination may be to jump right back into your full workload, clear out your inbox as soon as possible and handle anything that’s come up while you’ve been gone. This is a sure fire way to ensure your recover takes even longer. When you’re back at work, be sure to let clients and co-workers know that you’re in the process of settling back in and when you expect to be fully caught up.
Keep your diet in check. Nothing worse than going away from a weekend and coming home to an empty fridge and an internet full of takeout options. Make grocery shopping a priory on your welcome home list and stock up on fruits, veggies and healthy snacks.
Stick to a sleep schedule. It’s crucial to get your body back into normal sleep modes. It always helps me to try and put myself to bed and wake up around the same time daily as my body gets back on track.
These are all things we should probably be doing daily as a part of our regular routines, but bouncing back always requires and extra bit of self care. And if you happened to come back from your long week or weekend feeling a bit under the weather, I highly recommend adding a cup of my favorite homemade mix to your mornings.
